DAN SHEDWIN

Lone non-Tacoma member of the first two teams named to the all-Capital league alignment is Dan Shedwin, West’s 6-3 junior center.

 

Shedwin was named to the second team.

 

Among the honorable mentions were J.D. Tamerius and Steve Schumacher, West’s two interchangeable guards-forwards.

 

The 1962-63 all-Capital league team:

Boys List Cage Semi Round Go

Eight teams, Junior and four Intermediate teams, have advanced into tonight’s semifinal round of the 17th annual Kiwanis Goldenball tournament at Sheridan Park Gym.

 

Tonight’s schedule gets under way at 6 p.m. with Emmanuel Lutes playing Manette Merchants in Junior action followed at 7 by another Junior game between CYO-3 and the Westside Boys Club-1.

 

At 8 p.m., Intermediate actin gets under way with First Methodist playing West High Lettermen-1 and First Presbyterian-1 meeting Sons of Norway at 9.

 

FINALS IN the tournament will be Tuesday night at East high school with the Junior game getting under way at 7 p.m., followed at 8:15 by the Intermediate gray. Awarding of tournament awards, as well as the League championship trophies, will take place following the last game Tuesday.

 

CYO-3, one of the pre-tourney favorites, advanced to the semifinals with a 47-33 win over Tracyton-3. Phil Simion of CYO and Mike Okoniewshi of Tracyton tied for high honors in the game with 16 points each. The Ryen twins, Dwight and Dwayne, led Westside Boys Club to its 50-21 victory over Brownsville Community Church with 17 and 13 points.

 

Manette Merchants showed they were a team to be reckoned with by trouncing Kitsap Lakers-1 to the tune of 58-22. Morrie Miller with 18 and Keith Gudlefinger with 17 led the way for the eastsiders. The Junior A champion Lutes kept their record intact with a 62-15 runaway from Kitsap Lakers-2. Larry Negard had a big day with 24 points for the Lutes.

 

IN INTERMEDIATE play, First Presbyterian-1, led by Roy Harvey with 13, won a 46-33 game from East High Lettermen-1 while Sons of Norway had a 49-39 win over Our Saviour Lutes. Pete Knox was the big scorer for the Norway boys with 18.

 

Jim Kucinski scored 23 points for CYO-1 to no avail as First Methodist defeated his team in a real thriller, 49-47. Bill Throm led the winners with 12. In another real close one, the West High Lettermen-1 edged Charleston Baptist-1 by 3 points, 49-46, with Loren Bellar leading the way with 14.

 

In two league championship games played last week, First Presbyterian-2 won the Intermediate B playoff by defeating East High Lettermen-2, 51-34, with Greg Larson pouring through 21 points.

 

Star of the Sea-1 took the Midget A title by defeating Summit Presbyterian, 27-18, with Pete Mondiach and Tony Smith scoring eight points each.

 

Other league champions were West High Lettermen-1 in the Intermediate-A, Tracyton-3 in the Junio B, Emmanuel Lutes in the Junior A and Charleston Baptist-3 in the Midget B.
